Gambian cleric urges reforms of AU, ECOWAS for larger motion on African disaster
Imam Baba Leigh, a distinguished Gambian cleric, has delivered a passionate critique of the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), accusing them of failing to handle the urgent points confronted by their residents.
In a sermon delivered on Friday, he labelled the 2 organisations as “toothless bulldogs”, expressing deep frustration over their lack of efficient response to the continued crises affecting the continent.
He emphasised the pressing want for reform, suggesting that these our bodies are failing of their basic mission to guard and serve the African individuals.
“I have told the African Union and ECOWAS that these two bodies should be disbanded because they serve no purpose for the people,” he stated.
He pointed to the dire conditions many Africans face, highlighting the tragic deaths of youngsters in desert crossings and the mistreatment of youth in Libya.
“Haven’t you seen how our children are being killed in the desert? Haven’t you seen how these youths are mistreated in Libya?,” he stated, calling for quick motion and accountability from each organisations.
