Moral Guarantors to Facilitate Dialogue Between APC and Government on Tripartite Suggestions
National Publicity Secretary of the primary opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Sidi Yayah Tunis, has informed Concord Times on cellphone that the Moral Guarantors, together with ECOWAS, UN, and AU have promised to facilitate a gathering between the APC and the Government of Sierra Leone to handle sure points in relation to the implementation of the tripartite committee’s suggestions.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simão, along with the previous Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Fatoumata Jallow- Tambajang, arrived in Sierra Leone on October 14 to watch the implementation of the National Unity Agreement signed between the primary opposition All People’s Congress (APC) and the Government of Sierra Leone.
The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Alieu Touray, had in consultations with Leonardo Santos Simão, deployed the joint Monitoring Mission of the International Moral Guarantors to Sierra Leone from 15-18 October 2024, on the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity.
The Mission, which is co-led by Leonardo Santos Simão and Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, former Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, is backstopped by specialists from the respective establishments, together with the Commonwealth and the nation’s Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC).
The Mission yesterday held consultations with the management of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party on the social gathering’s headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown.
According to the Sid Tunis ‘the assembly was passable as a result of we had been capable of current our considerations relating to the implementation of the National Unity Agreement and the suggestions of the tripartite committee.
“As a party, we are not satisfied with the composition of the steering committee set up by the government to implement the tripartite recommendations. We also have issues with the framework for the implementation of the recommendations and we made that, clear to the moral guarantors who have promised to facilitate a meeting between us and the government,” stated Sidi Tunis.
The mission may also meet with different political events, management of the nationwide parliament, the judiciary, together with the hierarchy of the Security Agencies, the Electoral Commission, the Political Parties Regulation Commission, in addition to with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) amongst others.
The Mission will have interaction stakeholders on progress made within the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity in addition to actions being taken in regards to the suggestions of the Tripartite Committee’s Report.
