President approves improve of 15 districts, municipalities
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted Executive Approval for the improve of the standing of some 15 districts and municipalities throughout the nation.
The approval follows a request by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD) pursuant to related authorized provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
An announcement from the Ministry, shared with the Ghana News Agency, introduced that two Municipal Assemblies—Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly and Techiman Municipal Assembly—have been elevated to Metropolis standing.
The Gomoa East District Assembly has additionally been upgraded to a Metropolis.
In complete, twelve different District Assemblies, together with Bole District Assembly, Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly, Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly, Obuasi East District Assembly, and Sekyere South District Assembly, have been upgraded to Municipalities.
The relaxation are Ningo Prampram District Assembly, Anloga District Assembly, South Tongu District Assembly, Shama District Assembly, Techiman North District Assembly, and Pru East District Assembly.
The MLGDRD stated the improve of the affected Assemblies can be finalised as soon as the mandatory authorized and administrative processes had been accomplished.
The Ministry stated the request to alter the Ho Municipality to Metropolis, and the Offinso North and Birim North districts to municipalities, in addition to petitions for the creation of recent districts had been into consideration for needed motion.
