BCEAO issued a statement on a social media video reporting counterfeit banknotes at money transfer outlets.
In its communication, the BCEAO emphasized that knowing how to identify banknotes is the first line of defense against the circulation of counterfeit currency.
The institution is urging the public to make it a habit to authenticate any banknote received during a transaction.
The central bank directs the public to its official website, www.bceao.int, where the steps for verifying banknotes are explained under the u201cbanknotes and coinsu201d section.
The BCEAO also reaffirmed that measures are constantly being taken, in coordination with the authorities responsible for combating counterfeiting, to ensure the security of banknotes and coins in circulation.
