ECOWAS Delegation Meets UN, African Union Officials at 81st UN General Assembly
The ECOWAS Commission sent a delegation led by Chairperson General Biram Diop to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York from 22 to 27 September 2026. The delegation took part in plenary sessions and held meetings with UN officials, African Union and ECCAS counterparts, and the European Commissioner for International Partnerships. Nigeria's Vice-President Kashim Shettima received the delegation and urged the new ECOWAS leadership to prioritise unity and regional integration.

ECOWAS Senegal Office Completes 2027-2029 Programming Framework After Pointe Sarène Workshop
The ECOWAS Resident Representation in Senegal held a workshop in Pointe Sarène from September 15 to 19, 2026, reviewing its 2025-2026 activities and setting programming and budgeting for 2027-2029. Participants assessed physical and financial execution, identified constraints and agreed priorities, responsibilities and a monitoring system. The Representation now holds a consolidated framework for the three-year period.

Directors of ECOWAS institutions and agencies are meeting in Lagos from 21 to 30 September 2026 to align a medium-term expenditure framework for 2027–2029 with the Commission's 2026–2030 strategic priorities and to review the 2027 programme budget. Vice-President Oluwatosin Anthony Ogunjimi launched the retreat on behalf of Commission President General Birame Diop.

Burkina Faso launches second Juncao training for agricultural agents
Burkina Faso's Ministry of Agriculture has launched a second Juncao training session for about 100 agents, running from August 24 to September 16, 2026. The program, organized with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, aims to apply the grass-based technology to fodder and mushroom production, building on a successful 2024 session.
