Operation HADIN KAI Reports Fresh Rescue in Chibok Area
Nigerian troops have freed six additional individuals—four adults and two infants—who were being held captive in Borno State, according to an official statement from the military’s Joint Task Force in the North East. The rescue, which took place in the Talakawa area of Chibok Local Government Area, marks the latest success in an ongoing search-and-recovery mission focused on locating students abducted from Government Day Secondary School in Lassa.
The operation was carried out by personnel under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), the military task force leading counter-insurgency efforts in the region. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer at the task force’s headquarters, confirmed the development in a statement released to the press.
Details of the Rescue Operation
According to Captain Goni, the rescue was the result of sustained air and ground operations, supported by reliable intelligence. The six victims had originally been abducted in May from Mussa, a community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. Following their recovery, they were transported to a secure location where they are now undergoing thorough medical evaluations and receiving necessary care.
The statement emphasized that Operation HADIN KAI has provided immediate relief supplies and essential items to help mitigate the impact of the victims’ traumatic experience. Efforts are also underway to facilitate their safe reunification with their families.
Military Pursuit and Recovered Munitions
In addition to the rescue, troops are actively pursuing the fleeing terrorists, applying relentless pressure along their escape routes to restrict their operational freedom. During the pursuit, military personnel recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition that had been abandoned by the insurgents. The statement described this as further evidence of the success of the ongoing offensive and the chaotic nature of the terrorists’ retreat under significant military pressure.
Broader Context and Commitment
The rescue operation is part of a coordinated effort involving the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Borno State Government, security agencies, and auxiliary forces. The statement underscored the effectiveness of the coordinated search-and-rescue operations and reaffirmed the steadfast commitment of all parties to the safe recovery of all abducted individuals.
This latest development comes amid continued security challenges in Borno State, where insurgent groups have frequently targeted schools and rural communities for abductions. The military’s sustained air and ground campaigns aim to degrade the operational capacity of these groups and secure the release of remaining captives.
