The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a firm condemnation of the series of terrorist attacks that occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026, across multiple locations in the Republic of Mali. These heinous acts once again underscore the brutal nature of the perpetrators, who persistently threaten the peace, security, and stability of the entire West African sub-region.

In response to this escalating crisis, ECOWAS is urgently calling upon all member states, security forces, regional mechanisms, and the civilian populations of West Africa to unite and mobilize in a coordinated effort to combat this scourge. The organization emphasizes that no single nation can effectively address the transnational threat of terrorism alone; collective intelligence sharing, joint military operations, and community-based vigilance are essential. For example, recent successes in the Lake Chad Basin have shown that cross-border cooperation can degrade insurgent capabilities when resources and intelligence are pooled.

ECOWAS extends its deepest condolences to the grieving families of the victims and expresses its full solidarity with the people and authorities of the Republic of Mali during this tragic time. The organization reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in its fight against terrorism and to fostering resilience among affected communities.
