Nigerian Singer Waje Explains Why She Can’t Marry a Financially Struggling Man

Popular Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, professionally known as Waje, has opened up about her specific criteria for a life partner.

During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old artist stated she would not consider dating or marrying a man facing financial hardship.

The mother of one clarified that her age is a significant factor, explaining she no longer has the time or patience to “build” with a partner from the ground up.

“I can’t marry someone who is not successful, and here’s why: first of all, I’m not in my 20s so we are not growing together,” Waje said. “A man leads, he leads by selling aspirations to me. I have to aspire to see him lead. And if he can’t inspire me to grow, we can’t be partners. So, success is part of it. Faith and emotional intelligence are also part of it.”

Waje also revealed that she would not date a younger man, citing her pragmatic nature as a potential source of conflict.

“We will have issues,” she admitted. “I sometimes have to hold myself with my siblings, my friends, and my family members. Imagine if it was a husband? He would get tired. I will be treating him like my child. He would hate me.”
