Over 130 gold and bronze objects previously held in the UK and Switzerland have been repatriated to Ghana, as announced by the king of the Ashanti people, a tribe native to this East African nation.
King Osei Tutu II formally accepted the artifacts, which include royal insignia, drums, and ceremonial gold weights, on Sunday, November 9th at the Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi, the traditional capital of the Ashanti, according to an official statement.
This significant return includes 110 artifacts from the Barbier-Mueller Museum collection in Geneva, Switzerland, originally gathered by collector Josef Mueller in 1904.
