Somali Prime Minister Celebrates 102nd Anniversary of Turkish Republic
Mogadishu, Somalia — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre joined celebrations for the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu on Tuesday, calling it a “shared day of joy” for both nations.
In his address, the Prime Minister honored Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, lauding his courage and visionary leadership in establishing a republic that continues to inspire globally.
“This is a celebration we share with our Turkish brothers, commemorating the bravery and vision of Atatürk in creating a modern republic,” stated Prime Minister Hamza.
He emphasized the deep-rooted, historic ties between Somalia and Turkey, recalling President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s pivotal visit to Mogadishu in August 2011, a time when Somalia faced severe drought and significant security challenges.
“This anniversary offers a chance to further strengthen our cooperation in trade, security, culture, education, and people-to-people relations,” Hamza added.
The Prime Minister also expressed Somalia’s gratitude for Turkey’s ongoing support, particularly in the critical areas of security, defence, infrastructure development, and social services.
