Major General Ousman Gomez, Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), has started a nationwide tour of military installations, according to a statement from the GAF.

The tour, which began on Monday, August 31, is focused on assessing the welfare and working conditions of troops across the country.

Major General Gomez is expected to meet directly with personnel deployed at various installations to gain firsthand information about their circumstances.

Beyond the troops, the tour includes planned meetings with community leaders and regional administrators. The GAF has indicated that these engagements are intended to strengthen the relationship between the military and civilian communities, promoting cooperation and understanding.

The leadership’s assessment will also cover the state of deployments and the challenges facing personnel in different parts of the country.

According to the GAF, the information gathered from these direct engagements is meant to inform decisions aimed at improving both welfare and operational effectiveness.

Major General Gomez is scheduled to continue the tour across various regions and military installations in the coming days.
