Police in Conakry have arrested two people after discovering 725 grams of cocaine concealed inside tea packaging during an operation in the Kipé neighborhood of the Ratoma commune.
The arrests followed an investigation by the Central Anti-Drug Office (OCAD), which said its agents acted on information gathered from several phone numbers that had been flagged as suspicious.
According to initial findings, the suspects had altered the contents of tea cartons to smuggle the drugs.
Investigators said the original tea bags were removed and replaced with an equivalent quantity of cocaine, a method intended to make the packages look like ordinary boxes of tea.
The concealment technique was uncovered by OCAD’s research brigade, allowing them to recover the drugs during the operation.
The two detained individuals are expected to be brought before the competent courts to answer for the charges against them once the investigative procedure is complete.
Divisional Police Commissioner Abdoulaye Sangaré, the Central Director of OCAD, called on the public to remain vigilant in the face of evolving trafficking methods. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to pursuing those involved in drug trafficking and consumption.
OCAD also reminded the public that its toll-free number, 117, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to report any suspicious activity related to narcotics.
