The flag-off of emergency rehabilitation work on failed sections of the Benin-Sapele-Effurun Expressway has taken place at Amukpe Roundabout in Sapele, according to a statement from Senator representing Delta Central.
The senator said the intervention, which covers 15 kilometres of the worst portions of the Ajomata/Ibada-Elume-Amupke-Oghara stretch, followed sustained engagement with the Federal Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the Delta State Government.
Officials present at the flag-off included Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Road) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, NDDC Chairman Mr Chiedu Ebie, and NDDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Samuel Ogbuku.
The senator said the NDDC team inspected the affected sections from Benin through Sapele to Effurun on a Tuesday, with the flag-off following by Friday of the same week.
Contractors are starting from both ends of the corridor to ensure no section is left unattended while another is being worked on.
In the statement, the senator said the decision to pursue quiet, persistent engagement rather than public spectacle was deliberate, arguing that results rather than rhetoric should define the effort.
The senator also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the NDDC management for responding to the road’s condition, which had drawn significant public and media attention in recent weeks.
The senator acknowledged that while this intervention is welcome, more failed federal roads in Delta Central require attention and said he would continue to push for action on them.
