Afro-Descendant Delegation Delivers Aid and Solidarity to Burkina Faso’s Displaced
OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso – In a powerful display of pan-African solidarity, a delegation of Afro-descendants visited the Nomgana camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) on Thursday, November 6, 2025, bringing essential supplies and a message of unwavering support to those uprooted by the nation’s ongoing security crisis.
A Gesture of Compassion and Connection
Led by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, the delegation traveled to the site in the Oubri region to witness firsthand the conditions faced by displaced families. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between the diaspora and those suffering on the front lines of instability.
Michel Somma, the Director General of Burkinabè Abroad, explained the mission’s core objective. “We wanted this diaspora, currently visiting our capital, to see the reality for themselves and to demonstrate authentic African solidarity,” Somma stated.
More Than Just Material Aid
The delegation’s support came in multiple forms. They delivered a substantial donation of non-consumable equipment and crucial medical kits, addressing both the logistical and health challenges within the camp.
Dr. Stella Jeffries, representing the Association of African Descendants (ADDI), addressed the gathered IDPs. She framed the assistance as an outpouring of compassion from the broader African family. “This donation symbolizes the deep concern felt by the African diaspora for all victims of terrorism,” Dr. Jeffries affirmed.
In a spontaneous and moving act, the delegation also conducted an on-the-spot collection, raising an additional 386,000 CFA francs to be given directly to the displaced families, further underscoring their personal commitment.
A Grateful Response from the Ground
The gesture was met with profound gratitude from the camp’s residents. Yobi Nagbila, a representative for the IDPs at the Nomgana site, acknowledged that while the aid cannot erase their hardship, it provides critical relief.
“These donations will help to alleviate, even if just a little, the suffering we endure here,” Nagbila said. He extended his thanks to the donors and voiced his community’s support for the national authorities working toward a lasting solution that would allow them to return home safely.
This initiative highlights how transnational bonds of heritage and shared identity are being mobilized to confront humanitarian challenges, offering a glimmer of hope and a tangible connection to those forced to flee their homes.
