Deadly Clash in Adamawa Leaves Three Dead, Village Market Destroyed
Three people were killed and multiple structures destroyed following a violent attack by armed assailants in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, northeastern Nigeria, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The conflict reportedly began on Thursday afternoon when local hunters from Barkin Sajo, affiliated with the Miyetti Allah hunters association, pursued individuals suspected of cattle rustling into the Mayo Suno forest. A confrontation escalated into a gunfight, resulting in the death of one hunter, identified as 40-year-old Buji Alhaji.
Market Arson Compounds Violence
Following the initial skirmish, the attackers proceeded to Maigero village, where they set fire to seven thatched-roof huts in the local market. The arson was accompanied by further violence, leading to the deaths of two residents, Alhaji Haruna and Iliya Dabba.
Security forces responded to the scene, evacuating the victims’ bodies to the Cottage Hospital in Song. The state police have launched an investigation, with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) taking lead responsibility for tracking down the perpetrators.

This incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and northeastern regions, where competition over land and resources frequently erupts into violence. Clashes involving pastoralists, farmers, and local militias have been a long-standing issue, often exacerbated by the proliferation of small arms.
