Kaizer Chiefs Soar with 4-1 Rout of Orbit College

Amakhosi move level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the DStv Premiership table.
Kaizer Chiefs rediscovered their scoring touch in emphatic fashion on Tuesday, securing a 4-1 Betway Premiership victory over Orbit College at FNB Stadium. The win propels Amakhosi level on points with league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mduduzi Shabalala led the charge with a brace, while Mfundo Vilakazi scored a stunning goal and substitute Flavio Da Silva continued his scoring form. Ayanda Luhkele netted a consolation for the visitors.
Chiefs’ Goal-Scoring Breakthrough
On an unseasonably cool evening, the home fans witnessed a rare offensive explosion. This match marked the first time this season that Kaizer Chiefs have scored more than once in nine appearances at FNB Stadium across all competitions, hinting at a potential title challenge.
Orbit College started brightly, forcing an early save from the in-form Brandon Petersen. Chiefs capitalised on that stop immediately, with Thabiso Monyane—making his first start since August—providing a cross for Shabalala to slot home.
The visitors defended resolutely for the remainder of the half, stifling Chiefs’ attacks as their final pass repeatedly let them down.
Shabalala Seals His Brace
Chiefs emerged from the break with renewed intensity, creating a series of chances. Ighodaro blasted over the bar, and Vilakazi weaved into the area only to see his effort flash across the goal.
Orbit nearly punished this profligacy, but Petersen was again alert to deny a long-range effort. The pressure finally told in the 61st minute when Shabalala pounced on a rebound to double the lead.
Orbit hit back briefly through Ayanda Lukhele’s header, but any hopes of a comeback were extinguished by Vilakazi’s exquisite curling finish into the top corner just three minutes later. Petersen then preserved the lead with a stunning double save before Flavio Da Silva came off the bench to add a fourth.
