Libya Advances Electrical Grid Rehabilitation with New Transformer Installation at Al-Marj Station

In a significant step toward strengthening Libya’s power infrastructure, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies has completed critical maintenance work and prepared the foundation for a new power transformer at Al-Marj station. The achievement marks a pivotal moment in ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and enhance the performance of the nation’s electrical grid across multiple regions.

According to official statements from the ministry, the extensive work became necessary after the previous transformer base sustained severe structural damage from a fire that engulfed the old equipment. The National Construction and Consultations Company executed all maintenance operations following the highest technical specifications, ensuring the site meets all requirements for receiving the new transformer.

The arrival of the new transformer forms part of a comprehensive strategy to fully recommission the Al-Marj station and integrate it back into the national power network. This initiative receives substantial backing from the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund and operates under the direct oversight of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies, with close coordination maintained with the General Electricity Company of Libya.

Energy officials emphasize that this infrastructure upgrade represents a crucial component of the broader plan to modernize Libya’s electrical systems. The improvements support national reconstruction objectives and sustainable development goals while working toward providing citizens with more reliable electricity service. As the country continues its recovery, such strategic investments in critical infrastructure lay the groundwork for long-term stability and economic growth.
