Major Fire Erupts at Kafo Jiginew Headquarters in Bamako
A significant fire broke out on Monday afternoon, November 10, 2025, at the headquarters of the microfinance institution Kafo Jiginew, located in the ACI 2000 district of Bamako. The ACI 2000 rescue center, receiving support from teams in Bacodjicoroni, Dravela, and 1008 Logements, mounted a substantial operation. They deployed four tanker trucks, two liaison vehicles, and a force of seventy personnel to tackle the flames.
Their efforts proved highly effective. “The fire was contained in record time. No loss of human life is reported, but two vehicles, eleven motorcycles, and several administrative documents were destroyed,” a communications unit from Civil Protection stated. The rapid containment prevented the fire from spreading to the main building, sparing the institution from even greater devastation.
Conflicting Reports on the Fire’s Origin
In the aftermath, the precise cause of the fire remains shrouded in uncertainty, with authorities investigating two primary theories. One version, reported by a local digital platform, points to an electrical fault. According to this account, a short circuit in the institution’s generator provided the initial spark.
However, a conflicting narrative emerged from the ORTM news site. Their reporting suggests the presence of a gasoline barrel on the premises, which may have been the epicenter of the disaster. The question remains: was it an electrical failure or a fuel-related accident that led to the inferno?
Authorities Issue Safety Reminder
Seizing the moment to reinforce public safety, Colonel Adama D. Diarra issued a strong call for vigilance. He urged both citizens and business owners to exercise extreme caution with flammable materials, specifically advising against the careless handling of fuel. His statement also emphasized the critical importance of strict adherence to established fire safety regulations to prevent similar incidents.
