Police in Couffo Apprehend Three Youths in Kloukanm, Seize Homemade Guns and Stolen Motorcycles

In a decisive move against local crime, police in the Couffo Department have dismantled a small but brazen robbery ring, arresting three young men and recovering a cache of stolen goods and homemade weapons.

The operation, which culminated on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, was spearheaded by the central police station of Kloukanm. It marks a significant victory for a community grappling with incidents of theft and insecurity.

From a Stolen Motorcycle to a Wider Conspiracy

The case began to unravel about ten days prior, during the late hours of October 23. A local disc jockey returned home to find his motorcycle, parked securely on his own veranda, had vanished into the night. The theft prompted an immediate investigation by Kloukanm officers.

Their inquiries quickly pointed to a group operating from the Zouvou neighborhood. Intelligence gathered by police suggested the suspects were not lying low. Instead, they were reportedly holed up in a local motel, where they allegedly consumed psychoactive substances and openly boasted about their criminal exploits.

A Surprise Raid Yields Arrests and Weapons

Acting on this specific tip-off, authorities organized a surprise raid on the motel. The operation proceeded without a hitch, leading to the swift detention of the three suspects, all aged between 20 and 22.

A search of the premises revealed the seriousness of the group’s activities. Police confiscated two crude, homemade pistols and a 12-gauge cartridge, underscoring the potential for violence. The suspects now face formal allegations of motorcycle theft, criminal conspiracy, and illegal possession of firearms.

Uncovering the Fence and Recovering the Stolen Property

The investigation did not stop at the motel. Pursuing further leads, police identified a 35-year-old man in the nearby area of Azov suspected of acting as a fence for the stolen property.

A subsequent search of his location proved fruitful. Officers recovered six stolen motorcycles, including the one taken from the DJ. Also found were a master key, likely used in the thefts, and a collection of protective amulets, painting a vivid picture of the underworld the group inhabited.

A Step Towards Restoring Public Security

The three young men are currently in custody, awaiting the next steps in the judicial process under the authority of the Aplahou court prosecutor’s office.

Local authorities are heralding the operation as a clear success. In a region where residents have voiced concerns over safety, this coordinated action sends a strong message. The dismantling of this group and the recovery of weapons and stolen goods is seen as a critical step in restoring a sense of security to the streets of Kloukanm and the wider Couffo Department.
