Rift Valley Fever Outbreaks Reach 57 Across Mauritania as Two Nouakchott Sites Clear

Nouakchott, Mauritania – The number of Rift Valley fever outbreaks in Mauritania has climbed to 57, affecting 25 districts across eleven states, according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Livestock Development.

The ministry confirmed the successful containment of two outbreaks in the Tefragh Zeina and El-Ksar areas of Nouakchott. “This clearance follows repeated field and laboratory examinations,” the ministry stated, “which confirmed the animals are disease-free and no new infections were detected during the monitoring period.”

In its ongoing surveillance efforts, authorities have ruled out suspicion in 35 other potential outbreaks. This determination came after analyzing 985 samples, of which 227 tested positive for the disease.
