Sista Afia Believes Gospel Music Path Would Have Brought Greater Success
Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has revealed she believes her career would have reached greater heights had she chosen gospel music over her current secular path.
During an interview with Top FM, the “Weather” hitmaker reflected on her musical journey, suggesting the gospel industry might have offered more rewarding opportunities. Despite this, she expressed contentment with her current position, emphasizing her trust in God’s plan for her life.
Sista Afia disclosed that her musical roots began in the church, where she regularly sang gospel songs as a child. At just ten years old, she recorded a complete gospel album.
She credited Pastor Papa Sly of Kumasi’s Kingdom Light Ministry with recognizing her talent and facilitating the recording of a seven-track gospel album titled ‘Jesus Christ’. Although never officially released, the singer confirmed copies remain stored at her mother’s residence.
“If I had pursued gospel, I believe I would have been more successful by now,” Sista Afia stated. “But I feel content with what I’m doing because it’s God who places us where we are meant to be. I started as a gospel musician when I was a child. I recorded a gospel album at the age of ten, and it’s still in my mother’s house.”
The admission follows her recent revelation on The Delay Show where she confessed that despite years of dedication to Ghanaian music, she sometimes doubts she’ll ever become an industry favorite.
Reflecting on her career since her 2018 breakthrough single ‘Jeje’ featuring Shatta Wale, Sista Afia acknowledged she has made peace with her industry standing, recognizing that widespread popularity doesn’t always align with one’s purpose.
