Somali President Marks 25 Years of Federal Republic at Djibouti Anniversary

DJIBOUTI CITY — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on Wednesday, leading a high-level delegation to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Somalia’s Federal Republic reestablishment.

Hosted by Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, the ceremony also featured the inauguration of the new Horn of Africa Reconciliation Centre. The facility, designated as the Carta Peace Monument, honors the historic Somalia peace conference held in Djibouti that established the framework for the country’s current federal governance structure.

In his remarks, President Guelleh acknowledged the Somali leaders and community representatives present, underscoring Djibouti’s quarter-century commitment to Somalia’s peace and reconciliation process.

President Mohamud delivered a keynote address reflecting on Somalia’s political achievements since the pivotal conference, highlighting advancements in governance, national reconciliation, and institutional development.

The new reconciliation center symbolizes the continued dedication to regional stability in the Horn of Africa and strengthens the deep historical ties between the two neighboring nations.
