The Ondo State Police Command has initiated a full-scale investigation into a disturbing and mysterious incident: the death of an unidentified woman discovered in a hotel room in Ore, within the Odigbo Local Government Area. This case highlights critical issues in public safety and the complexities of modern criminal investigations.
The woman’s lifeless body was found on Wednesday inside a facility situated along the busy Ore–Okitipupa Road. The circumstances are particularly alarming as the man who had checked into the room with her fled the scene, immediately casting suspicion on him and transforming the case from a simple death inquiry into a potential homicide investigation. The swift departure of a person of interest is a classic red flag for investigators, suggesting consciousness of guilt.
A hotel source, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, provided a timeline to our correspondent. The two individuals were seen arriving together earlier in the day. The situation turned grim when a hotel worker entered the room and discovered the woman lifeless on the bed, with her male companion nowhere to be found. “The two were seen together earlier in the day, but when a worker of the hotel got to the room, the lady was seen lifeless on the bed, and the man could not be found,” the source recounted. “It was the person who drew the attention of other hotel staff to the scene. Immediately, the matter was reported at the police station in Ore.”
Intriguingly, the hotel worker noted a lack of visible injuries on the body or any overt signs of a struggle within the room. This absence of immediate, obvious trauma significantly widens the spectrum of possible causes of death. Investigators must now consider a range of scenarios beyond physical assault, including poisoning, suffocation, a pre-existing medical condition that led to sudden death, or an overdose. This detail makes the pending autopsy report absolutely crucial, as it will determine the direction of the entire investigation.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, assured the public that operatives are actively pursuing leads. “Yes, the incident happened, and we have begun an investigation, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” the PPRO stated. This manhunt will likely involve reviewing the hotel’s CCTV footage, analyzing mobile phone data, and conducting forensic analysis of the room for fingerprints, DNA, and other trace evidence left behind by the suspect.
The body of the deceased has been moved to a hospital morgue in the community, where it will be held pending identification and a mandatory autopsy. Identifying the victim is the first critical step; without a name, it is nearly impossible to build a background profile, understand her movements prior to checking into the hotel, or establish a potential motive. Authorities will likely appeal to the public for assistance in identifying her, while also checking missing persons reports.
This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerabilities that can exist and underscores the importance of thorough police work in delivering justice for the victim and her family.
