Tahoua civil society groups marched Sunday, August 30, 2026, supporting CNSP after events at Niamey’s Air Base 101 on August 28-29.
The Collective of Civil Society Organizations, which includes women’s groups, youth groups, religious leaders, trade unions, people living with disabilities, and economic operators, organised the demonstration in collaboration with regional and customary authorities.
The march began at the Official Tribune and proceeded to the Tahoua City Hall, passing through the CHR roundabout and the teacher training college, before ending at the Governorate.
During the procession, demonstrators chanted slogans hostile to the soldiers involved in the incident, as well as slogans favourable to the authorities, including “long live the CNSP” and “Saï Tiani.”
Governor of the Tahoua region, Colonel-Major Souleymane Amadou Moussa, addressed the demonstrators and said he took note, with great emotion, of the letters from the youth and from the collective of CSOs in the region.
He stated that he had followed the events from start to finish in order to organise for future actions.
The Governor expressed his deep gratitude to the population of Ader, stressing that it has always remained steadfast and vigilant for security and good governance in the refoundation.
Colonel-Major Souleymane Amadou Moussa called on the population to redouble their vigilance and remain united. He promised to continue serving the homeland tirelessly, even to the ultimate sacrifice.
He also congratulated the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) who ensure the safety of people and their property day and night, encouraging them to maintain good coordination among themselves, before appealing to the ulemas to continue raising awareness among Muslim faithful and to pray for the nation.
In a statement read before the regional authorities by the Secretary General of the Regional Support Committee for the CNSP, Mr. Boubé Karimoune, the Collective expressed its profound indignation at the events that occurred in Niamey at Air Base 101.
The statement condemned with the utmost energy what it called this irresponsible and senseless adventure that disturbed the peace of the populations and threatened the stability of the country, while Niger is waging an existential fight against terrorism and forces hostile to its sovereignty.
“Such acts constitute a serious attack on the supreme interest of the Nation,” the statement said, adding that these acts, whatever their motives and possible support, have chosen the path of rupture with discipline, loyalty, and patriotic duty.
The authors emphasised that no soldier worthy of the name should forget that his weapon belongs to the Republic and must be used exclusively to defend the people and territorial integrity.
The Collective considers that any action aimed at sowing confusion, disorder, weakening the State, and dividing Nigeriens constitutes a betrayal of the FDS, who make immense sacrifices on various fronts.
“Tahoua refuses, and refuses again, categorically, any return to the crises and divisions that have too long weakened our country,” the statement stressed, specifying that no individual ambition, no internal or external manipulation, should divert Niger from its revolutionary struggle for its sovereignty and its refoundation.
The collective called on all elements of the Defense and Security Forces to remain united and faithful to their oath, their mission, and the Republic.
It also called on the Nigerien populations to remain calm, vigilant, and not to give in to rumors, disinformation, and attempts at manipulation.
The Collective lent its support to all forces engaged in the defense and preservation of peace, stability, and the territorial integrity of Niger.
It also demanded that light be shed on these events and that responsibilities be established in accordance with the laws of the Republic.
A collective prayer followed by Qunut in the Governorate mosque, in the presence of regional and customary authorities, brought the demonstration to a close.
