$71,000 prize for grabs as ECOWAS int’l marathon holds in Abuja March 1
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) shall be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary in 2025.
As a part of actions to commemorate this important milestone, the Commission is organising the 2025 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon, which shall be held on March 1, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
The occasion, which options 21km and 5km classes, is predicted to draw runners and health lovers throughout the continent and past.
In a press release signed by the Director of Communications & Media of the ECOWAS Marathon Olukayode Thomas, the 5km Race will start at Eagle Square and finish on the ECOWAS Commission in Asokoro Abuja, whereas the 21km half-marathon will begin on the ECOWAS Commission and end on the Commission.

Race Director Gabriel Okon revealed that the race is open to all classes of runners.
He stated: “The occasion is for elites and enjoyable runners and different lessons of health lovers from throughout the continent, all vying for his or her share of over $71,000 in prize cash.
“The marathon is not only a celebration of athleticism but also a showcase of unity and the vibrant spirit of the region.”
Okon expressed his enthusiasm for the occasion, describing it as an unparalleled alternative to deliver folks collectively by way of sport.
“The ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon is more than a race; it’s a symbol of unity, empowerment and engagement of our youths and a celebration of healthy living. We are thrilled to welcome runners from across Africa and beyond to join this extraordinary event,” he added.
Okon additionally revealed that the prize cash for the 5km race has been elevated, with the highest ten finishers receiving money prizes.
Registered runners will obtain official race certificates, finisher medals, working vests, quantity bibs, participant guides, and different shock items.
