Boat with a whole bunch of Gambians departs Barra for Canary Islands
A migrant boat carrying a whole bunch of Gambians together with girls and kids, has departed from Barra en path to the Canary Islands, marking the twenty ninth such voyage this 12 months.
This newest journey comes amid a rising wave of younger Gambians fleeing financial hardship, pushed largely by excessive youth unemployment.
Local neighborhood leaders have expressed deep concern for the protection of the migrants, calling for elevated consciousness of the risks they face in the course of the perilous journey.
“We pray for their safe arrival. These families are risking everything for a chance at a better future, and we must stand in solidarity with them,” Ebrima Drammeh, Italy-based Gambian migrants rights activist stated.
