Mali’s boxing scene is set for a landmark evening on September 26, 2026, as the first “Fanga Boxing Night” brings a clash between two top fighters.
The event, announced on August 29, 2026, by the organizing committee at the Groupe Renouveau premises, marks a significant step forward for professional boxing in the country.
The main event will feature Abdoulaye Traoré, known as “Predator,” stepping into the ring for the first time in his career to face the reigning champion, Aboubacar Traoré, nicknamed “Tyson.” The matchup pits the challenger’s ambition against the champion’s experience in what promises to be a compelling contest of styles.
Organizers have made the bold decision to offer free entry to the event, aiming to draw a large crowd of boxing enthusiasts to the Groupe Renouveau premises for the evening.
The gala is a joint effort between Groupe Renouveau and the Professional Boxing League, following the success of three editions of the Challenge Boxe, which helped showcase amateur talent.
According to Markatie Daou, Deputy Managing Director of Groupe Renouveau, the event seeks to raise boxing’s profile among the general public and strengthen its place in the national sporting landscape.
“The gala must serve as a true showcase for Malian boxers and allow the best talents to gain greater visibility with the public, the media, promoters, and stakeholders in the sports world,” Daou said.
Daou also highlighted that the event aims to foster collaboration between sports movement stakeholders and the media, giving greater visibility to disciplines and athletes who need it.
He described this first edition as the starting point of a broader ambition to make “Fanga Boxing Night” a benchmark event, with a scope that could expand from national to regional and then international.
Nafaraba Keita of the Professional Boxing League of Mali said the event provides an opportunity to test the level of boxing in Mali while identifying young talents who could represent the country internationally.
He also confirmed that delegations of boxers from Senegal, Niger, and Guinea will travel to compete against local talent, offering a full-scale test of the power, technique, and vitality of Mali’s rising generation of boxers.
With the promise of knockouts and a festive atmosphere, the September 26 event is shaping up to be a memorable night for Malian sport.
