Major General Ousman Gomez, Gambia Armed Forces Chief of Defence Staff, began a nationwide tour of military installations to assess troop welfare and working conditions.
The tour began on Monday, August 31, according to a GAF statement. It is intended to allow the CDS to engage directly with personnel and gather firsthand information about the conditions under which Gambian soldiers operate.
During the tour, Major General Gomez is expected to meet with troops at various installations, as well as with community leaders and regional administrators.
The GAF said the engagement aims to provide the CDS with firsthand information that could inform decisions on improving welfare and operational effectiveness.
The tour also focuses on strengthening the relationship between the military and civilian communities. Meetings with community leaders and regional administrators are expected to promote cooperation and understanding between the armed forces and the communities where personnel are based.
The nationwide tour is part of the GAF leadership’s broader efforts to maintain regular engagement with personnel and strengthen civil-military relations across the country. Major General Gomez is expected to continue the tour in the coming days.
