ECOWAS Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources delegation is in Lomé for a three-day parliamentary oversight mission from 27 to 29 October 2026 on Community project implementation.
The visit centres on the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (ARAA), where the delegation is holding discussions with Executive Director Konlani Kanfitin and agency staff.
The stated aim is to gain a thorough understanding of the Agency and learn about its key achievements on the ground.
Two initiatives coordinated by the Agency are receiving particular attention during the mission: the ECOWAS STOCKS II project and the West African School Feeding Modernisation Programme, known by its French acronym PMAI-AO.
The delegation is led by the Chair of the Committee, the Honourable Mohammed Ali Ndume.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kanfitin said the mission offered the Agency a chance to raise its profile among the parliamentarians and to draw on their observations in order to improve its practices and performance in serving communities.
Ndume framed the visit as an opportunity to strengthen dialogue between the Community’s institutions and the representatives of the peoples of ECOWAS.
He described parliamentarians as playing a vital role in promoting regional integration, scrutinising the Community’s actions and raising public awareness of the policies and programmes implemented by ECOWAS.
Parliamentary oversight missions of this kind are a standard mechanism through which the ECOWAS Parliament examines how regional institutions and programmes are being run, with the stated objective of promoting effective, accountable and sustainable management of regional initiatives.
