Nigeria’s Edo Queens and Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies have both booked their places in the semi-finals of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, maintaining flawless records after two matches in Ouagadougou. The two sides lead Group B with six points each, while hosts USFA of Burkina Faso have also made a strong start in Group A.
Edo Queens’ Prolific Attack
Edo Queens have been the tournament’s most potent attacking side, scoring 10 goals in two games. Their campaign opened with a resounding 7-0 victory over Niger’s AS Garde Nationale, followed by a 3-1 win against Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas. That result guaranteed their progression with a match to spare.
Ampem Darkoa’s Balanced Approach
Ampem Darkoa, the Ghanaian champions, have combined defensive resilience with attacking quality. They edged ASEC Mimosas 1-0 in their opener before a commanding 4-0 win over AS Garde Nationale. Sunday’s meeting between Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa will now decide who tops Group B, with both teams already assured of semi-final football.
USFA Take Control in Group A
Hosts USFA made an early statement by beating Benin’s FC Dynamique 3-0, putting them in a strong position in the three-team Group A. With fewer matches in the group, that margin of victory could prove decisive. USFA will face Togo’s ASKO de Kara on Saturday, with ASKO and FC Dynamique competing for the remaining semi-final spot. ASKO need to avoid a four-goal defeat to advance.
Individual Stars Emerge
Several players have stood out in the opening matches. Edo Queens forward Esther Moses scored a hat-trick in the 7-0 win over AS Garde Nationale, becoming the first player at this year’s qualifiers to net three times in a game and earning Woman of the Match honours. Her teammate Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, a 16-year-old, scored and assisted in the 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas, also claiming the Woman of the Match award. Coach Kennedy Boboye suggested Adegbuyi’s development could eventually lead to a call-up for Nigeria’s senior national team.
For Ampem Darkoa, midfielder Nancy Amoh has been influential, scoring once and collecting a Woman of the Match award. USFA’s Deborah Guira made an immediate impact off the bench against FC Dynamique, contributing a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win.
