The new executive board of the Nigerien National Olympic and Sports Committee (COSNI) officially named the Committee’s large meeting room after Yannick Ousmane Keïta, the press attaché who died on July 26, 2025.
The decision to rename the room was made by the executive committee led by Youssouf Badr Zoudi. According to the tribute report, the gesture goes beyond a simple plaque on a wall. It sends a clear message to the entire Nigerien sports community: COSNI remembers those who dedicated their lives to elevating national sport. Keïta’s name, now engraved at the heart of the institution, will serve as a daily reminder to officials, athletes, and journalists of the commitment, rigor, and humanity he embodied.
Remembering ‘Zigraph’ or ‘YOK’
Keïta, affectionately known as “Zigraph” or “YOK” among colleagues, was not a desk-bound reporter. He was a sports journalist at heart, often found on the field, familiar with every federation, and present at nearly every competition. His approach was simple: every event deserved coverage, and every athlete deserved recognition. Though discreet, he was a constant presence—the voice of COSNI who tirelessly explained and promoted Nigerien sport, as noted by customs Colonel Saley Boubacar Djingarey, deputy treasurer of COSNI.
The one-year anniversary of his passing has now been marked by this institutional recognition.

The ceremony also featured a speech by customs Lieutenant-Colonel Saley Amadou Djinguarey, president of the Nigerien Basketball Federation and a member of COSNI’s Executive Council. He praised Keïta’s professionalism, loyalty, rigor, and the immense contribution he made to the sports movement, expressing confidence that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Keïta’s family was represented by his elder brother, Omar Lalo Keïta, who expressed deep gratitude to COSNI for what he called a “historic” tribute. He highlighted the institution’s solidarity with the family since the journalist’s passing and thanked President Badr Issouf Zoudi and his team for their support.
