Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Ayo-Luther Ogunmade, visited the ECOWAS Logistics Depot in Lungi on 30 October 2026, a familiarisation trip that followed her assumption of duty.
The delegation was received by the Depot’s Commander, Navy Captain I. J. Akpa, who briefed the High Commissioner on the facility’s mandate, its strategic importance and progress towards full operationalisation since it was commissioned in July 2026.
According to a report from the Economic Community of West African States, the Commander set out the Depot’s role in strengthening the bloc’s regional logistics capabilities in support of peace and security operations, humanitarian assistance and emergency response.
He also pointed to Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to regional peace and security, including its continued support for ECOWAS initiatives aimed at enhancing collective preparedness and regional integration.
The visit gave the High Commissioner and her entourage an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the Depot’s facilities and with ongoing efforts to develop it into a fully operational regional logistics, training and humanitarian response hub.
ECOWAS described the engagement as reinforcing the importance of sustained diplomatic and institutional cooperation in advancing its strategic objectives and strengthening regional peace, security and integration.
