Roadside Check Uncovers Larger Operation
A routine road safety operation in Saint-Louis has resulted in the dismantling of a suspected drug distribution network, with police uncovering a cannabis processing site in the nearby area of Rao. The operation, which began as a standard checkpoint, led to multiple arrests and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs.
According to a report from Seneweb, the events unfolded on Saturday, July 26, 2026, around 7 p.m. Officers from the Research Brigade (BR) of the Pikine district police station, supported by the Urban Corps, were conducting a checkpoint at the entrance to Saint-Louis when they stopped an individual found carrying 500 grams of cannabis.
Suspect Leads Police to Supplier
The detained individual, identified as A.Sy, a decorator by profession, told investigators that he had purchased the drugs from a man named I.Fall, a resident of Rao. Acting on this information, the public prosecutor authorized the arrest of the alleged supplier and a search of his property.
Police proceeded to Rao, arriving around 7:30 p.m., where they located a field measuring approximately 900 square meters. The land was being used to cultivate chili peppers, lettuce, and okra, but officers found I.Fall on site in the middle of processing cannabis. A search of the field yielded eight bags of cannabis, along with several empty bags intended for packaging the product.
Confession and Additional Arrests
During questioning, I.Fall admitted to owning the discovered drugs and confessed to selling the 500 grams of cannabis found on A.Sy during the road check. The investigation did not stop there. Police also apprehended five individuals who were consuming cannabis in the same field at the time of the raid. Three of them have been identified, while the identities of the other two, along with further details of the proceedings, are expected to be outlined in a supplementary report, according to police sources.
The public prosecutor has been informed of the developments, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish all responsibilities in the case.
