ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Research and Statistics opened a four-day strategic seminar Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Zuma Rock, Niger State, Nigeria, to review its mandate and set 2027–2030 priorities.

The meeting brings staff together to evaluate ongoing programs, analyze institutional capacity and identify strategic priorities and resource requirements for the Directorate, according to a report from the Economic Community of West African States.

Its stated aim is to produce a shared vision for the Directorate, along with an operational roadmap and an action plan covering 2027–2030.

The seminar also seeks to build internal synergy, mobilize teams around shared goals and improve how the Directorate supports the wider ECOWAS Commission.

Participants are expected to review the responsibilities and activities of each unit and staff member, clarify roles and performance expectations, and look for ways to strengthen collaboration with other Directorates within the Commission and with development partners.

A performance review forms part of the agenda, covering past achievements, constraints and lessons from previous programs, as well as budgetary challenges affecting implementation.

Discussions also place communication, teamwork and collaboration at the centre, and examine how the Directorate’s actions align with the strategic vision and priorities of the Commission’s new management team.

That vision is structured around three pillars: revitalizing action, deepening integration and delivering concrete results for citizens.

The Directorate is responsible for statistics, research, data management, monitoring and analytical support. It is tasked with providing the data, indicators, analytical products and monitoring frameworks needed to measure progress toward ECOWAS Vision 2050 and the current management’s strategic priorities.

Gbogboto Bundu Musa, Director of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the ECOWAS Commission, is among the participants.
