In a match to strengthen FDS-civilian ties, the FDS team beat Ténado’s communal youth 2-1 on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The game, held at the Saint-Augustin High School field in Ténado, was attended by the Minister of State, Minister of War and Patriotic Defense, Major General Célestin Simporé, and his delegation.
The match was played in two 20-minute halves. At halftime, the score was level at one goal apiece.
The soldiers’ team then extended their lead in the 37th minute. Despite subsequent attacks from the Ténado youth, the result remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Beyond the sporting outcome, the encounter was above all a moment of fraternity and rapprochement between soldiers and civilians. For the Minister of State, the main point was not to designate a winner.
“There was no winner. Ténado won, the Nando region won, because the objective has been achieved,” he declared.
He praised the smooth running of the match, which he said was marked by a good atmosphere and fair play. He also called on soldiers and civilians to strengthen their ties and work together to safeguard the community.
“We ask civilians and soldiers to behave like the branches of the same tree, to work so that the trunk can survive,” he urged.
On the military side, Chief Marshal Kiswendsida Nikiema, captain of the victorious team, placed particular importance on this win secured in the presence of the supervising minister.
“We had to win for his honor, and that is what was done this evening,” he stated. He also thanked the authorities for making this match possible, saying it contributes to strengthening cohesion between soldiers and civilians.
At the end of the match, the military team received a trophy, medals, balls, and a set of jerseys.
For Eugène Bationo, captain of the Ténado communal team, the defeat is explained in particular by a few shortcomings observed within his team.
Far from being discouraged, he intends to draw lessons from this encounter and prepare better for future challenges. The youth also received medals, jerseys, and a ball.
In the same spirit, the Minister of State and his delegation paid courtesy visits to customary authorities wherever they went. First to the canton chief, Lallé Naaba Guiguemdé, in Koudougou, then to the land chief of Réo.
The delegation also made a stop at the Yilo Center of Koukouldi (CYK), where it handed out AES identity cards as part of an operation subsidized by Bassolma Bazié for around 300 people.
