Ceesay Secures Mandate to Lead Gambian Football
Kemo Ceesay, a former financial director of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), has been elected as the federation’s new president. The election, held during the GFF’s elective assembly in Banjul, saw Ceesay secure an outright majority in the first round of voting, avoiding the need for a runoff.
Ceesay won 41 of the 77 votes cast by delegates, a clear majority in the three-way race. He will now take over from outgoing president Lamin Kaba Bajo and will lead the country’s football governing body for the next four years.
The Contenders and the Result
The presidential race featured three candidates with distinct backgrounds in Gambian football. Ceesay’s closest rival was Colonel Musa Jammeh, a former Gambia national team international, who finished second with 24 votes. Sadibou Kamaso, who ran under the “Team Restore Confidence” slate, came in third with 12 votes.
The decisive first-round outcome means Ceesay will not face a second round of voting, giving him a strong mandate as he assumes the federation’s top role.
