Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima left Abuja on Saturday for Luanda, Angola, to take part in the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima is representing President Bola Tinubu at the high-level gathering.
Focus on Conflict Resolution and Regional Stability
The AU session brings together African leaders and other stakeholders in the Angolan capital to deliberate on strategies for tackling regional security threats and reinforcing collective action.
Nigeria’s participation reflects its established role in peacebuilding and conflict mediation both within Africa and beyond. The vice president is expected to deliver President Tinubu’s address, which will outline Nigeria’s stance on the issues under consideration and reaffirm the country’s commitment to peace and stability across the continent.

Shettima is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, according to Nkwocha. The vice president is scheduled to return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Angola.
