Former Couple’s Private Split Turns Public
Reality television stars JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez, who met and finished third on the 2024 season of Love Island, are trading accusations in a very public dispute that has drawn in at least one of their former castmates. The conflict, which began with a private breakup in July 2025, has now spilled onto social media and a podcast, with each party offering sharply different accounts of what happened.
According to a report from the outlet that first covered the story, Craig and Rodriguez appeared to be a committed couple after leaving the villa, but their relationship ended last July when Craig said she discovered that Rodriguez was not the person she believed him to be and that their romance was built on false intentions. Reports later claimed that Craig found messages allegedly showing Rodriguez admitted to faking their connection for fame and money and made racist comments about not being attracted to Black women.
Rodriguez’s Account on ‘The Journey Podcast’
Rodriguez recently gave his version of events during an interview on “The Journey Podcast.” He told the host that Craig went through his phone after an argument following a night out in Los Angeles. The next morning, he said, she woke him and told him she was upset by what she found. Rodriguez then claimed she got physical with him, threatened to call 911, and “that’s when he knew it wasn’t gonna end well.”
He also said he sent her a letter expressing that he felt their relationship had lasted too long and that they had been dealing with issues that led to the breakup. During the interview, Rodriguez mentioned that the only person from the show to reach out to him after the news broke was his fellow Love Island costar Kordell Beckham, and that he had “the utmost respect” for him for doing so. (Beckham and his partner Serena Page won the 2024 season.)
Beckham Distances Himself
Beckham quickly pushed back on that characterization. In a post to his Instagram stories, he made it clear that he was not an ally or friend to Rodriguez. “We not even gon get on how you sat on that podcast and lied the entire time. But what we not gon do is lie like I condoned anything you did/said. After YOU called me, I got on that ass, and we haven’t spoken since. Shoutout to my sis JaNa, love you for life girl. And keep my name out yo mf mouth, I don’t f*ck with you bro,” he said.
Craig Responds, Threatens Legal Action
After seeing clips from the podcast and Beckham’s post, Craig responded on her own Instagram stories with a statement before, in her words, “calling her lawyers.” She addressed Rodriguez directly: “To the person who thought it was a good idea to send me a cease and desist [order] and then go on a whole ass podcast and make up straight f*cking lies, very ballsy of you. How f*cking insane. But if you want to f*cking play, let’s f*cking play.” She added that Rodriguez ought to give her permission to release the text messages she has referenced.
“You know everything you said [on the podcast] was a f*cking lie. All of my friends know it’s a lie, so I’m not even stressing…I spared you. For a whole f*cking year. I been minding my business, literally focusing on myself and my blessings, and you thought that was a good idea? Alright b*tch, let’s f*cking play,” Craig said.
In a follow-up post, she shared that after the incident at the Los Angeles hotel, she left and never spoke to him again. She also pushed back on Rodriguez’s narrative that she “begged” him to stay in the relationship and that they had daily arguments and issues.
Latest Developments
On Tuesday, Craig posted again to Instagram, making it clear that she had never been physical with Rodriguez and suggesting that she has over 70 screenshots of messages. She also indicated that Rodriguez had made more derogatory comments about the Black community, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community. As of the latest reports, Rodriguez has not responded to Craig’s most recent statements.
What This Dispute Reveals About Reality TV Relationships
The public unraveling of Craig and Rodriguez’s relationship is a reminder of the unique pressures faced by couples who meet on reality dating shows. While many contestants leave the villa hoping to build a lasting connection, the transition from a controlled filming environment to real-world life can be fraught with challenges. The intense public scrutiny, combined with the potential for financial incentives tied to fame, can strain even the most genuine pairings. In this case, the allegations of faking a connection for fame and money—if true—would represent an extreme example of that dynamic. The involvement of a third party like Beckham, who felt compelled to publicly clarify his position, also highlights how these disputes can ripple through the cast’s social circles long after the season ends.
