The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a three-day weather forecast covering Sunday, July 27, through Tuesday, July 29, 2026, predicting a mix of sunshine, cloudiness, and thunderstorms with moderate rainfall across various regions of the country.
Regional Breakdown for Sunday
According to the agency’s outlook, the northern region can expect sunny skies with patches of clouds on Sunday. However, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains are anticipated during the morning hours over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna states. By the afternoon and evening, similar conditions are forecast for parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.
In the North Central region, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory during the morning hours. The afternoon and evening are likely to bring thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory.
For the southern region, moderate rains are predicted over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa states during the morning hours. The agency forecasts moderate rains across the entire southern region later in the day.
Monday’s Forecast
On Monday, NiMet envisages thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the northern region during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states.
In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over parts of Niger, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory. The afternoon and evening hours are expected to bring thunderstorms with moderate rains across the entire region.
The southern region is forecast to see light rains over parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Rivers states during the morning hours. NiMet anticipates a partly cloudy chance of thunderstorms with moderate rain over the entire southern region later in the day.
Tuesday’s Outlook
According to NiMet, Tuesday will bring partly cloudy skies over the northern region, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by light rains over parts of Bauchi, Jigawa, and Yobe states during the morning hours. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are predicted across the region during the afternoon and evening hours.
For the North Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated during the morning hours. Later, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected across the entire region.
The southern region is forecast to have a cloudy atmosphere with prospects of light rains over parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states during the morning hours. The agency anticipates thunderstorms with moderate rains over the entire region later in the day.
Safety Advisories and Precautions
NiMet has issued several safety advisories for the public. The agency warned that strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur, advising residents to take adequate precautions and ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collisions.
The expected continuous rains over the coastal areas of the South carry a high risk of flash flooding. The agency specifically advised against driving or wading through flood waters and recommended avoiding driving in heavy rain. Residents were also urged to disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets and to stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports, or flight documentation, from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
