GIABA Opens Three-Day Investigative Journalism Training in Accra on Financial Crime Reporting

GIABA opened a three-day regional training workshop on investigative journalism covering economic and financial crimes in Accra, Ghana, running from 22 to 24 September 2026. Journalists from across West Africa are attending sessions on financial investigation, open-source intelligence and beneficial ownership analysis. GIABA and Ghana Financial Intelligence Centre officials addressed the opening, with the programme also covering cross-border media networking.

ECOWAS Directors Meet in Lagos to Align 2027–2029 Spending Plans

King Sunny Adé at 80: How ‘King of Jùjú’ Took Yoruba Music to World

King Sunny Adé turns 80 this year, closing in on six decades of shaping Nigerian jùjú music and carrying it to international audiences. Born in Òṣogbo in 1946, he built his own bands, label and a Grammy-nominated run with Island Records, while keeping Yoruba rhythms, talking drums and oral traditions at the centre of his sound.

African Communities Want Climate Services Built Around Local Needs, Researchers Find

Researchers surveyed 530 people involved in nature-based projects across Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar and South Africa about the climate information they receive and what they still need. Most said existing services fall short, and 91 per cent want indigenous and local knowledge built into new ones. The authors argue that funding should cover the joint work of producing climate services, not just the final forecasts and tools.

Fabien Eboussi Boulaga: Cameroonian Philosopher Who Asked Who Thinks for Africa

Cameroonian philosopher Fabien Eboussi Boulaga, who lived from 1934 to 2018, built his work around a single persistent question: from where can an African intellectual speak without becoming the representative of a power, an ideology or a fixed identity? Writing in The Conversation, researcher Christophe Premat traces that question through Eboussi Boulaga's break with the Jesuits in 1980, his 1977 book on the crisis of the Muntu, and his 1993 essay on the "exotic intellectual". Premat argues the philosopher's insistence on interrogating the categories used in the name of emancipation keeps his thinking current.

ECOWAS Opens New Abuja Headquarters to Journalists, Briefs Media on Excellence Awards
