Civic Engagement Takes Center Stage at Faso Mêbo Site in Réo
On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the provincial Faso Mêbo site in Réo, Burkina Faso, became a gathering point for members and supporters of the Local Development Support Initiative (IDL). The group convened for a working session focused on making paving stones, and also handed over 200 curb molds to support the ongoing construction effort.
The event reflects a broader push for civic engagement and endogenous development—a principle that IDL says has guided its work since its founding in 2017. For the association’s executive secretary, Souleymane Bako, who is also a lawyer at the bar, the turnout signals a strong commitment among Sanguié’s sons and daughters to help build their province and, by extension, the nation.
Endogenous Development as a Core Principle
Speaking at the site, Bako emphasized that local development should be understood as endogenous development—meaning it must come from within the community itself. He recalled that IDL was created out of the will of a number of sons of Sanguié to contribute directly to the construction of their province.
This latest action marks a new phase in IDL’s support for Faso Mêbo. According to Bako, the association had already donated 10 tonnes of cement to Faso Mêbo on July 31, 2025, in Ouagadougou. In addition, IDL made an in-kind and cash contribution of 5,150,000 FCFA during the launch of Faso Mêbo Sanguié on June 13, 2026.
“Today, we believe it is necessary to come and get our hands dirty,” Bako said, inviting members, supporters, and anyone willing to support the initiative to take part in the work.
Provincial Coordinator Welcomes Support
Michel Kabré, the provincial coordinator of Faso Mêbo Sanguié, expressed satisfaction with the mobilization. He welcomed IDL’s consistent support since the launch of Faso Mêbo activities in the province, including the donation of the 200 curb molds.
“It is together that we will build this province and, by extension, our nation,” Kabré declared, while thanking all the individuals and organizations that support Faso Mêbo Sanguié.
Government Officials Present, Offer Encouragement
The working session also drew the attention of senior government officials. Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, the Minister of Justice and a son of the locality, was present at the site. Alongside him was Ousmane Ouattara, the Secretary General of the Government, who welcomed the civic initiative.
Ouattara noted that since the State cannot do everything, it is indeed up to citizens to engage in such actions to contribute to the country’s economic and social development. He expressed hope that IDL’s initiative would have a “snowball effect” and assured that the government intends to support and sustain such initiatives.

The event in Réo underscores a growing pattern of community-led contributions to Faso Mêbo, a national initiative aimed at mobilizing local resources for development. While the government’s role remains central, the participation of groups like IDL highlights the complementary efforts of citizens and associations.
As Faso Mêbo Sanguié continues to gain momentum, the involvement of local leaders, professionals, and ordinary citizens will likely remain a key factor in its progress. The donation of curb molds and the hands-on participation in paving stone production are practical steps that bring the initiative closer to its goals.
For now, IDL’s message is clear: development is not something to wait for—it is something to build together.
