Partnership Renewed in Freetown Meeting
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs and the international development organization Trócaire have agreed to strengthen their long-standing collaboration on gender equality and child protection. The commitment came during a courtesy visit by Trócaire’s Chief Executive Officer to the Ministry in Freetown.
Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi, hosted the CEO for discussions focused on advancing the rights and welfare of women, girls, and children across the country. The meeting served to reaffirm a partnership that has been central to several national initiatives.
Recognition of Legislative Progress
During the engagement, the Trócaire CEO congratulated Dr. Mahoi on her leadership and commended the Ministry for its continued dedication to protecting vulnerable groups. He specifically praised the Ministry for championing two key pieces of legislation: the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) Act 2022 and the Child Rights Act 2025. He described these laws as major milestones in the protection and empowerment of women and children in Sierra Leone.
Dr. Mahoi, in her response, expressed appreciation for Trócaire’s ongoing support. She noted that the organization has remained a dependable development partner, with its contributions complementing the Government’s own efforts to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, and child welfare.

The Minister emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships in addressing the challenges that continue to affect women and children. She highlighted the need for collaborative work to build a more inclusive and equitable society.
The meeting concluded with both the Ministry and Trócaire reaffirming their commitment to deepening cooperation. They pledged to strengthen joint efforts to advance child protection, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls throughout Sierra Leone.
