Two kamikaze drones launched from south of Niafunké, beyond the Niger River, toward the town missed their targets on Thursday, lightly injuring one person, a security source cited by AMAP said.
One of the devices fell in the rice fields of the Goubo rice-growing area. The second crashed into a resident’s compound, damaging his solar installations.

The Defense and Security Forces (FDS) were the first to intervene after being alerted. They assisted the injured person, who was evacuated to the Reference Health Center (CSRéf) for treatment, and then secured the perimeter.
Sweep operations are continuing across the area.
The head of the household whose compound was hit praised the responsiveness of the defense forces. According to him, their intervention and the diversion of the devices’ trajectory helped avoid a heavier toll.
The weekly market in Niafunké is proceeding normally despite the incident. The FDS say they are continuing their operations and that the situation is under control.
