Traditional authorities and religious leaders in the Gao region organised collective prayers and blessings on Friday in support of the Malian defence and security forces, AMAP reported.
The gatherings took place across the region and in mosques in the urban commune of Gao, including the Koweit and Tombeau des Askia mosques.

The mobilisation meeting was held in the large conference room of the Gao governorate.
It was chaired by Abouzeidi Ousmane Maiga, coordinator of the traditional authorities of the Gao region and head of the regional team for support to reconciliation, alongside Bouya Ben Maouloud, focal point of the initiative to support Operation “Dougoukoloko,” and Ousmane Salah, president of the high Islamic council of the region and imam of the Koweit mosque.

Salah called on all populations of the region to implore the Almighty and His messenger through prayers, blessings, fasting and sacrifices.
Ben Maouloud, who is also first deputy mayor of the urban commune of Gao, described the support for Operation “Dougoukoloko” by the Fama as very symbolic, saying the initiative came from the forces themselves.
In his introduction, Maiga said the traditional authorities, the high Islamic council and the Imamate planned the initiative to support Operation “Dougoukoloko” through prayer sessions and blessings throughout the region for the authorities, the Fama and Mali.
