Bougouni circle prefect Hamadoun Tamboura presided over the closing ceremony of the 31st Month of Solidarity and Fight against Exclusion on Thursday, AMAP reported from the southern Malian town.
The ceremony drew administrative and political officials, heads of services, traditional authorities and civil society actors.
The day’s programme opened with a courtesy visit to the Protestant church of Bougouni, which was damaged by a fire on 23 August.
The prefect and members of his delegation offered their moral support following the disaster, which caused losses in products and materials worth several million, according to Reverend Pastor Ibrahim Sogoba.

At the end of the visit, Tamboura symbolically handed over food kits to the church consisting of eight bags of rice of fifty kilograms each.
Youssouf Diallo, director of the pedagogical animation centre (D-CAP) and sponsor of the month, congratulated the prefect and the technical services of social development and the solidarity economy for work he said had helped relieve certain destitute families.
The representative of the chieftaincy and the mayor of the urban commune of Bougouni, Karim Sangaré, paid tribute to the prefect for the organisation of this edition’s activities.
Several certificates of recognition were presented to recipients, followed by the handover of food and non-food items by the local service of social development and the solidarity economy.
