The warning was delivered following a meeting in Abuja between Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and George Emmanuel, a survivor of the ill-fated journey. Emmanuel, who witnessed the vessel capsize and the loss of nearly 30 lives, shared his harrowing account with ministry officials, detailing the extreme dangers of the desert route and the terrifying final moments before the boat went down.
