Tourism, hospitality and handicrafts operators in Mopti met Thursday, 5 November to finalise the region’s participation in the 2026 International Tourism Fair (SITOUR), hosted by Bamako from 12 to 14 November.
The regional directorate of tourism and hospitality convened the session, chaired by regional tourism director Mamadou Kaba Diakité, alongside his handicrafts counterpart Moussa Seithy. Leaders of the region’s professional organisations in the three sectors attended.
Diakité told the meeting that Mopti is one of the guest regions of this fifth edition of the fair, which is dedicated to promoting Mali’s know-how and tourism potential and to raising the visibility of the Mali destination.
He said the region, given what he described as its immense potential, should meet the challenge of quantitative and qualitative participation, and that the meeting was an opportunity to examine the main components of the event in detail.

Participants reviewed the state of preparations, which they judged satisfactory, and raised concerns about travel conditions.
They gave the supervisory authority an assurance that the delegation would meet the challenge of showcasing the region’s handicrafts, living traditions and the dynamism of its stakeholders.
According to the Ministry of Handicrafts, Tourism and the Hotel Industry, the fair is being organised under the theme « The resilience of African tourism in the face of recent changes ».
The ministry places the event within the celebration of the 2026-2027 year, which Mali has placed under the banner of Education and Culture, an extension of the Year of Culture and part of an effort to consolidate gains in the cultural revitalisation of territories, increase the promotion of talents and project a positive image of the Mali destination.
